So this is me…
…and my fancy headshot (taken by the ridiculously talented Kasey Loftin
Photography). Truth be told, I got all dolled up for this session and also created a marketing video for my new website. The video…well, it sucked! It seemed awkward and not me so I scrapped that and took pen to paper (yes, I am old school – love to write…with a pen, buy CD’s/records rather than download and don’t even dare suggest I get a kindle) – so this is me…
I love to tell stories, that is really what it comes down to. I started my professional career as a television journalist that took me on a crazy path. Two careers, a marriage and two kids later, I am still doing what I love – telling stories through pictures and videos.
I like these shots…the real, messy, authentic, beautiful images. The pro’s call it Lifestyle photography, I call it real – the laughs, the cries and everything in between. Yes, I take posed shots that most people expect but it’s the candid craziness that will make you feel something when you look back 20 years from now. I want to capture how you matter to each other, feelings that are hard to put in words.
Whole Lotta Grace
Whole Lotta Grace Photography is truly a labor of soul-altering love as it combines my two passions: photography and these kids…the 153 million children without a family to call their own. I get to work for an amazing organization (Retail Orphan Initiative) that supplies technology and other resources to vulnerable children around the world. A couple times a year, I travel to far off lands and meet some of the most amazing people in some of the most unimaginable conditions. To get to tell their stories is one of my greatest blessings.
My experiences with these kids changed my heart and it was that burning in my soul that kept me up at night. After one trip in 2013, I literally couldn’t sleep through the night for the better part of 3 months. I felt helpless and lost. Thanks to some therapy, wine and lots of praying – I figured a way to dig myself out.
I stepped whole heartedly into this grace thing … that is where Whole Lotta Grace comes in…my photography work now supports these kids/projects in a new way and I couldn’t be more excited to step into what I feel I’m called to do. I totally live by the “every little bit helps” philosphy so while these little contributions may not make a dent in this epidemic, it could make life better for one child. It’s cliche but I love it – “be the change you want to see in the world”.
Getting to capture life’s imperfect beauty, whether it’s here in Charlotte, NC or on my travels – well, it’s pretty awesome and I am so grateful to all of you who have supported me along the way.
